Recovery Without Leaving Your Life

What is outpatient drug rehab?

Outpatient substance use treatment delivers structured, evidence-based addiction care while you live at home: group therapy, individual sessions, relapse prevention, family involvement, and psychiatric support, at an intensity matched to you through the ASAM Criteria. It ranges from an intensive outpatient program of nine or more hours per week down to weekly outpatient recovery care.

We treat alcohol use disorder, drug and prescription medication dependence, and the mental health that almost always travels with them. Because addiction rarely arrives alone, co-occurring depression, anxiety, and trauma are treated in the same coordinated plan by the same master’s-level team, never referred out to a second program.

Outpatient care here is both a starting point and a step-down. Some clients begin at the substance use IOP level; others arrive from PHP, residential treatment, or detox, keeping momentum as intensity tapers toward weekly care. We do not provide medical detox; when it is needed first, we coordinate a safe referral and continue your treatment with us afterward. Day, evening, and virtual schedules keep work and family intact.

Behavioral Patterns

Process Addictions

Gambling, sex and love, and technology addictions treated with CSAT-led, judgment-free care alongside or instead of substance work.

Levels of Care · ASAM Criteria

IOP for addiction, at the right intensity

A licensed clinician assesses you across the six ASAM dimensions: withdrawal potential, medical needs, emotional and behavioral health, readiness to change, relapse potential, and living environment. That sets your starting level, and we step you up or down as you progress, with the same team the whole way.

ASAM Level 1

Weekly Outpatient (OP)

One or two sessions per week for maintenance, relapse prevention, and sustained long-term growth.

ASAM Level 2.1

Substance Use IOP

Nine or more structured hours per week on day, three-day, or evening schedules, while living at home.

ASAM Level 2.5

Partial Hospitalization (PHP)

Twenty or more clinical hours most days of the week, the most structure outpatient care offers.

Flagship

Individualized Intensive Program

A fully customized program that flexes across levels, with recovery mentoring woven into every phase.

Inside the Program

What your plan includes

Every element is sequenced into the plan where it helps most, chosen for what is actually driving the pattern. See the full toolkit on our clinical services page.

Core

Recovery & Process Groups

Clinician-led process groups, relapse prevention, and recovery education, in groups small enough that you are known, not processed.

One-to-One

Individual & Trauma Therapy

Weekly individual sessions with CBT, DBT, EMDR, CPT, and somatic work sequenced in, because lasting sobriety treats the drivers, not just the drinking or the using.

Around You

Family, Psychiatry & Mentoring

Family involvement, psychiatric and medication support, and recovery mentoring that carries accountability into daily life.

Beyond the Sessions

Recovery that holds between appointments

Sobriety is built in the hours between sessions. Through our sister practice, Heights Mentoring, recovery mentoring and companioning can be added to any outpatient plan: daily accountability, sober companioning for travel and high-risk windows, and a steady presence that remains after clinical care tapers.

Family gets support too, through education, guided sessions, and family programming, because recovery holds best when the people closest to you know how to help without losing themselves.

Common Questions

Outpatient treatment, answered

If you do not see your question here, call our admissions team at (877) 549-5102 and we will walk you through it.

What is outpatient substance abuse treatment?

Outpatient treatment delivers structured addiction care, group therapy, individual sessions, relapse prevention, family involvement, and psychiatric support, while you live at home. Intensity ranges from an intensive outpatient program of nine or more hours per week down to weekly outpatient care, matched to you through the ASAM Criteria.

Do I need residential rehab, or is outpatient enough?

That is exactly what the assessment answers. A licensed clinician evaluates you across the six ASAM dimensions and recommends the right starting level. Many people succeed in outpatient care; when residential treatment is clinically indicated, we refer to trusted partners and coordinate your return for step-down.

Do you provide medical detox?

No. We are an outpatient practice and do not provide medical detox. If detox is needed first, we help coordinate a safe referral and continue your treatment with us afterward.

What substances do you treat?

Alcohol, opioids, stimulants, benzodiazepines, cannabis, prescription medications, and combinations of these, along with gambling, sex and love, and technology addictions through our CSAT-led process addiction track.

What if I also have depression, anxiety, or trauma?

That is the norm, not the exception. We treat co-occurring mental health and substance use together in one coordinated dual diagnosis plan, with the same team, because treating half the picture rarely holds.

Can I keep working during treatment?

Yes. Day, three-day, evening, and virtual schedules exist so treatment fits around work, school, and family. Our Evening IOP was built specifically for working professionals.

How long does outpatient treatment last?

There is no fixed length. Many clients spend several weeks to a few months at the IOP level, then step down to weekly care as they stabilize, with the plan reassessed by a licensed clinician throughout.

What happens if I relapse during treatment?

A return to use is met with clinical honesty, not shame. We reassess, adjust intensity if needed, and strengthen the plan around what was missed. Relapse prevention is built into every week from the start.

Is my treatment confidential?

Yes. Your privacy is protected under HIPAA, and we coordinate with family, employers, or other providers only with your written authorization.

Does insurance cover outpatient substance abuse treatment?

We are a private-pay practice. For clients with out-of-network benefits, we provide detailed superbills you can submit to your insurer for possible reimbursement, and we help verify your benefits and explain costs before you commit to anything.

Is family included in treatment?

When clinically appropriate and with your consent, yes. Family education, guided sessions, and communication coaching are available, because recovery is stronger when the people closest to you understand how to help.

What happens after I finish?

Step-down is planned from the start: weekly outpatient care, alumni connection, and recovery mentoring and companioning through Heights Mentoring that keep accountability and structure in daily life for as long as it helps.

How does outpatient rehab work?

Outpatient rehab means you attend scheduled treatment, such as group therapy, individual therapy, and medication support when appropriate, and return home each day. Intensity can range from weekly sessions to an intensive outpatient program several days a week, and it adjusts as you stabilize.

What is the difference between outpatient and inpatient rehab?

Inpatient or residential rehab means living at a facility. Outpatient rehab lets you keep living at home and maintain work and family responsibilities while you attend treatment. If you need medical detox or residential care first, we help coordinate a trusted referral and plan your step-down into outpatient care.

When can I call and speak with someone?

Our admissions team answers seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm Central Time. Call (877) 549-5102 to talk with a real person about what is going on, your schedule, and whether our programs are the right fit. If you reach out after hours, leave a message or send the consultation form and we will return your call as soon as we open. If this is an emergency, call 911. If you or someone you love is in a mental health crisis, call or text 988.
