What We Treat

Mental health care built around you

Heights Behavioral Health provides outpatient mental health treatment for adults in Houston and The Heights. Our clinicians are licensed, master’s-level professionals who build each plan around the individual rather than a predetermined schedule, and because most people arrive carrying more than one thing, care is dual diagnosis-forward and trauma-informed from the first conversation. Therapy, groups, medication management, and family work all live inside one coordinated plan, with one team.

Our Specialties

The conditions we specialize in

These are the conditions we treat every day, what they actually look like, and how they respond to care. If several feel familiar at once, that is common, and it is exactly what an integrated practice is for.

Low Mood

Depression

More than sadness: persistent low mood or flatness, exhaustion, hopelessness, and losing interest in what used to matter, lasting two weeks or longer. Many of our clients have high-functioning depression, performing at work while empty inside. Major depressive disorder and persistent depressive disorder both respond well to therapy, with medication support when appropriate.

Worry & Panic

Anxiety Disorders

Generalized anxiety, panic attacks, and social anxiety: worry that will not switch off, a racing heart and tight chest, sleep that will not come, and a life that quietly shrinks as you avoid what triggers it. Evidence-based therapy teaches the nervous system a different answer than avoidance.

Highs & Lows

Mood Disorders

Bipolar I and II and related conditions: cycling energy and mood, impulsive highs, and crushing lows. Careful diagnosis matters here, because mood disorders are often mistaken for depression and treated incorrectly. Our care pairs therapy with attentive medication management and mood stability work.

The Loop

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

OCD is not a personality quirk about tidiness. It is intrusive, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) paired with rituals or mental acts (compulsions) that relieve the anxiety briefly and strengthen the loop. Structured, exposure-informed CBT is the gold standard, and it works.

Patterns & Relationships

Personality Disorders

Long-standing patterns in emotion regulation, self-image, and relationships, including borderline personality disorder: intense attachments, fear of abandonment, and a self that shifts with the room. DBT skills and boundary-focused work make these patterns treatable, not a life sentence.

New Mothers

Postpartum Depression & Anxiety

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are real and common: sadness, rage, intrusive thoughts, or relentless anxiety during pregnancy or after birth that lasts beyond the two-week baby blues. Discreet, mother-aware care, with virtual options and medication management, means you do not have to white-knuckle it.

Adult ADHD

Adult ADHD alongside anxiety, depression, and substance use

ADHD rarely shows up alone. Many adults who come to Heights live with it alongside anxiety, depression, or substance use.

Inattention, restlessness, and impulsivity can make work, relationships, and recovery harder, and they often drive self-medicating with cannabis, alcohol, or stimulants. We address how ADHD affects mood, routines, and recovery as part of one integrated plan, using skills-based therapy and structure that account for how your attention actually works.

If stimulant misuse is part of the picture, our cocaine and stimulant addiction treatment in Houston treats it in the same plan. Related reading: ADHD and cannabis and Adderall misuse among professionals.

Medication Management

Therapy and medication, one plan

When medication is clinically appropriate, it works best alongside therapy, not instead of it, and not from a disconnected clinic across town. Our medication management is integrated into your treatment plan: evaluation, careful titration, and ongoing monitoring happen in coordination with the clinicians who see you every week, so adjustments follow what is actually happening in your life. Medication is offered as a support when it helps, never as the whole plan, and never as a requirement.

How We Treat

The therapies behind your plan

Evidence-based modalities are chosen for what you need, not what a template dictates, delivered through individual therapy and group work, with family involvement when it helps.

Foundations

CBT & DBT

Cognitive behavioral therapy rebuilds the thought patterns driving depression, anxiety, and OCD; dialectical behavior therapy adds emotion regulation and distress tolerance, essential for mood and personality work.

Trauma Processing

CPT & EMDR

Because unresolved trauma sits underneath so much depression and anxiety, we treat it directly with Cognitive Processing Therapy and EMDR rather than working around it.

Body-Based

Somatic Experiencing

Anxiety and trauma live in the nervous system, not just the mind. Somatic work releases stored survival stress and builds regulation, so calm stops being something you force.

Brain Training

Neurofeedback

Non-invasive brain training that helps calm overactive patterns, supporting steadier focus, better sleep, and a more regulated mood while the deeper work takes hold.

Connection

Group & Experiential Therapy

Clinician-led process and skills groups plus experiential work, equine, art, mindfulness, and trauma-informed yoga, that make recovery less isolating and reach what talk alone cannot.

Prescribed With Care

Medication Management

Psychiatric medication evaluation, titration, and monitoring, integrated with your therapy so the whole team works from one plan. A support when appropriate, never the whole answer.

Levels of Care · ASAM-Guided

As much support as you need

Weekly therapy is enough for many people. Others need more structure to stabilize, especially in a hard season. After a confidential assessment, a licensed clinician recommends the right starting point across our full continuum of outpatient care, then steps intensity down as you improve, with the same team throughout.

Our Approach

How we approach treatment

Care begins with a thorough assessment, not an intake checklist. From there, guided by ASAM criteria, we recommend a level of care and a plan that fits both the clinical picture and your life. Evidence-based modalities are chosen for what you need, medication management is woven in when appropriate, and family is involved when it helps. We do not promise outcomes. We commit to individualized, evidence-based care and to being clear and honest about cost and coverage at every step.

Common Questions

Mental health care, answered

If you do not see your question here, call our admissions team at (877) 549-5102 and we will walk you through it.

What mental health conditions do you treat?

We specialize in depression, anxiety disorders, mood disorders including bipolar I and II, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), personality disorders including borderline personality disorder, and postpartum depression and anxiety, along with burnout, emotional dysregulation, and trauma. When substance use or a behavioral addiction is part of the picture, we treat it in the same plan.

Do you offer medication management?

Yes. Psychiatric medication evaluation, titration, and ongoing monitoring are integrated with your therapy, so the whole team works from one plan. Medication is offered as a support when clinically appropriate, never as the whole answer and never as a requirement.

Do you treat postpartum depression and anxiety?

Yes. Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders are a specialty. If sadness, rage, intrusive thoughts, or relentless anxiety have lasted beyond the two-week baby blues, discreet, mother-aware care with virtual options and medication management can help.

Do you treat OCD?

Yes. We treat obsessive-compulsive disorder with structured, exposure-informed cognitive behavioral therapy, the gold standard for OCD, with medication management added when appropriate.

Do you treat personality disorders?

Yes, including borderline personality disorder. Care centers on DBT skills for emotion regulation and distress tolerance, along with boundary-focused and relational work. These patterns are treatable, not a life sentence.

Do you offer different levels of care?

Yes. We offer weekly therapy, our Individualized Intensive Program, PHP, a dedicated Mental Health IOP, and an evening IOP. After an ASAM-guided assessment, we recommend the level that fits and adjust as you stabilize.

Do I need a diagnosis to start mental health treatment?

No. You do not need a formal diagnosis or a referral to reach out. We begin with an assessment, and a licensed clinician helps clarify what is going on and what will help.

Is outpatient treatment enough for depression or anxiety?

For many people, yes. Structured outpatient care is effective for depression, anxiety, and related conditions. After an ASAM-guided assessment, we recommend the right intensity and adjust as you improve, and we refer out if a higher level of care is ever needed.

How much does mental health treatment cost without insurance?

Cost depends on the services in your customized plan. We are private pay and work with out-of-network benefits, and we provide detailed superbills to submit to your insurer. We will explain costs clearly before you commit to anything.

Do you offer virtual or telehealth therapy?

Yes. Many individual sessions and groups are available virtually, which is especially helpful for new mothers and busy professionals who need care to fit around real life.

Do you treat adult ADHD?

We support adults with ADHD as part of integrated care for anxiety, depression, or substance use, with skills-based therapy and structure built around how your attention works. If stimulant misuse is involved, it is treated in the same plan.

When can I call and speak with someone?

Our admissions team answers seven days a week, from 8:00 am to 7:30 pm Central Time. Call (877) 549-5102 to talk with a real person about what is going on, your schedule, and whether our programs are the right fit. If you reach out after hours, leave a message or send the consultation form and we will return your call as soon as we open. If this is an emergency, call 911. If you or someone you love is in a mental health crisis, call or text 988.
