Treatable, Not a Character Flaw
When drinking stops being your choice
Alcohol use disorder is a medical condition, not a moral failing, and it exists on a spectrum. Some people we see are drinking more than they want to most nights and still holding it together at work. Others have lost control entirely. Outpatient alcohol rehab gives you real, structured treatment while you sleep at home, so recovery happens inside the life you are trying to protect.
Understanding Alcohol Use Disorder
What is alcohol use disorder?
Alcohol use disorder is a pattern of drinking that is hard to control despite harm to health, work, or relationships. It is diagnosed as mild, moderate, or severe based on signs such as cravings, tolerance, withdrawal, and failed attempts to cut back. The earlier it is treated, the more options you have, and most people do not need to wait for a crisis to begin.
How It Is Spotted
Signs it may be time for help
- Drinking more, or for longer, than you intended
- Trying to cut back and not being able to
- Cravings or planning around the next drink
- Needing more to feel the same effect
- Shakiness, sweating, poor sleep, or anxiety when not drinking
- Drinking to manage stress, sleep, or mood
- Hiding how much you drink, or drinking before events
- Problems at work or home that keep coming back to alcohol
Is Outpatient Right
When outpatient rehab fits
- You can stay safe at home between sessions
- Withdrawal risk is low, or detox has been completed
- You want to keep working or caring for family
- You need more than weekly therapy but not a residential stay
- You want discretion and a schedule that protects your career
Levels of Care · ASAM Criteria
Alcohol IOP and as much structure as recovery needs
After a confidential, ASAM-guided assessment, a licensed clinician recommends the right starting point across our continuum of outpatient care. Alcohol withdrawal can be medically dangerous, so if you drink heavily every day, we screen for withdrawal risk first and coordinate medically supervised detox when it is needed.

Common Questions
Outpatient alcohol rehab, answered
If you do not see your question here, call our admissions team at (877) 549-5102 and we will walk you through it.
Is outpatient alcohol rehab effective?
For many people, yes. Outpatient programs such as PHP and IOP deliver structured, evidence-based treatment while you live at home. The right level of care depends on withdrawal risk, safety, and support at home, which is what an assessment determines.
Do I need detox before outpatient treatment?
Not always. People who drink heavily every day can face dangerous withdrawal and should be evaluated medically before stopping. We screen for withdrawal risk and coordinate medically supervised detox when it is needed. Heights does not provide detox itself.
Can I keep working during treatment?
Often, yes. Our evening intensive outpatient program runs after work hours, and many sessions are available virtually. An assessment helps decide whether that level of care is enough.
Are there medications for alcohol use disorder?
Yes. FDA-approved options include naltrexone, acamprosate, and disulfiram, and they work best alongside therapy. Your care team can discuss whether medication makes sense for you.
Do you take insurance?
We are private pay and do not bill insurance directly. We provide superbills you can submit to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement, and we explain costs before you commit to anything.
What are the signs of alcoholism?
Common signs include drinking more or longer than you intended, trying to cut back without success, cravings, needing more to feel the same effect, withdrawal symptoms such as shakiness or sweating, and continuing to drink despite problems at work, at home, or with your health.
Am I an alcoholic?
Only a clinical assessment can say for sure, but if drinking is causing problems and you have had trouble cutting back, it is worth talking with someone. You do not need a label to get help, and you do not need to hit rock bottom first. A confidential call with our admissions team is a good place to start.
